Sailing Yachts
Sailing yachts vary greatly in size from 20ft to over 100ft long. The main propulsion of a sailing yacht is the wind so it is more economically and environmentally friendly than other yachting options. The design of these yachts can vary between a monohull which has a fixed keel below the waterline to maintain balance from the force of the wind in the sails. There are also multihull yachts such as catamarans or trimarans. These feature separate hulls that provide stability due to the spacing between them.
There are many classifications in yachting with sail boats. The first is the day sailing yachts. These are smallest in size and do not usually have a cabin and are designed for short journeys. Weekender yachts are slightly larger, usually less than 30ft. These boats are designed for journeys lasting two to three days and can easily be removed from the water and placed in a trailer for storage. Cruiser yachts tend to be the most popular choice and have a variety of designs. They are designed to cater for longer journeys with plenty of storage space and comfortable interior. There are the luxury sailing yachts which generally are upward of 82ft in size. These yachts feature most modern appliances and can be a home away from home for travelers. Finally there are racing yachts. These boats are specifically designed to reduce any drag and features which might slow them down. The result of this is that in most cases they are very basically fitted comfort wise and designed to withstand extreme conditions of weather.
